Dating Convention: Every civilization on Umbraxia currently dates its time as AE, which stands for After the End. This was adopted after the victory of the Great War, formerly known as the War of the Realms.
In order to make reading these dates easier, everything before 0 AE will be denoted as BE. So, if someone prior to that mentions a date, there is a date on a journal, or anything like that, it will be labeled as BE. Otherwise, almost every kingdom, the dragons, etc, would all have different dates (which I actually am keeping track of behind the scenes…it can be a nightmare).
Calendar: The calendar of Umbraxia is set up with twelve months of thirty days each. There is a five day holiday at the end of the 12th month that ushers in the new year.
Starting from the first month, they are: Phoen, Levia, Drago, Mari, Saehr, Shaita, Freet, Boita, Jinn, Witchfire, Kiri, Ouro. The celebration between Ouro and Phoen is known simply as the Ouroen Festival.
“Week”: A week on Umbraxia is actually ten days and is typically referred to as a tenday.
Each day in the tenday is named in honor of one of the ten major types of chromatic or metallic dragons.
In order, they are: Aurumi, Argenti, Pyropi, Cupri, Oricalci, Niveusi, Furvusi, Viridi, Caeruli, and Rubeusi.
The only exception to these days are the five days of the Ouroen Festival, which are named after the five major types of gem dragons. They are: Crysti, Sapphiri, Smari, Amethyi, and Topi.
Holidays: Numerous civilizations have their own holidays. Minor kingdom or racial specific holidays will be detailed in the books. Below are holidays that are celebrated throughout the entire world, so while there may be differences in different places, a person will always be able to find similarities.
- Ouroen Festival: The five day festival between the end of the year and the beginning of the new year. It celebrates the creation and birth of the new year after the ending of the old. It is a time of giving and presents.
- Witchfire: This celebration is held on the 30th of Witchfire. During the month of Witchfire, the veil between Umbraxia and its parallel planes, the Shadow and Fae Realms, are at its thinnest, allowing creatures to move between these planes with relative ease. The 30th of Witchfire happens to be when the Spirit Plane also has its closest contact with the material world. Since this thinning of the veil also affects the Spirit Plane, the last day of Witchfire became a day to welcome back the spirits of loves ones to visit while warding against the spirits of the unwelcome.
