With one final grunt and a scream of pain from his mother, the babe came into this world, and into the Arch-healer’s hands.
However, that is where any semblance of a normal birth ends.
As soon as the baby came out, a rush of cold wind came out of nowhere, snuffing the candles and torches, and causing the flames in the fireplace to flicker wildly. As the other healers scurried around to relight the candles and torches, the Arch-healer froze in place, staring at the newborn, looking for all the world as if she had seen a ghost.
Legends are Made of Beginnings shows how every hero has their origin story, the foundation upon which the rest of their legend is built. So what happens when two origin stories separated by 1,500 years intertwine with each other?
A young woman has completed her service to the Shadonwren town guard and finally reached her majority. In her mind, life was going perfectly until her dreams became haunted by an ethereal presence that was determined to make its wishes heard. Not understanding why, Sophia allows herself to be led by this voice, finding herself accepting the charge to find some unknown being and discover its story. She could have never imagined that her quest was to seek out one of The Champions; a legend of the Great War. One who bards still immortalize in song and story but for all practical purposes has been consigned to history…and beyond. Nor could she have dreamed that her story was going to become part of the next chapter in his legendary life.
The bards are not the only ones who had consigned the great Dragonlord to history. He himself is so lost in the guilt of his choices that he has refused to leave his lair for well over a millennium. That means it falls to his friend and guardian, Cirrus to recount the tales of his boyhood adventures…and misadventures…to Sofia and her friends. There is only so much the dragoness can do though. She can detail her own unorthodox education of the young prince, can describe his flashes of draconic power, explain how he chose his Night Rangers, and even reveal how woefully unprepared she was for the dragon he would become…but there is one thing she cannot do: Disclose what all those things meant to him. That leaves Sophia and her friends the daunting task of discovering a reason important enough to wake an enormous sleeping dragon…one that does not wish to be woken.
